Acadien Écossais Premier Duet Choreography
The SDCCS Committee is very excited to offer this Special Duet Choreography event at this year’s series and thrilled with the enthusiasm it has attractive with so many premier duet teams registering for this event! We are now sitting at 65 duets registered to date, which means that 130 dancers will get to compete in the very first Duet Choreography competition ever presented at a SDCCS series.
What started out as a vision by one of our Co- Chairpersons to include more choreography events for the Premier dancers in our series has now materialized into an exciting event that has attracted many premier dancers from across the country and beyond to showcase their artistic side of dance in this duet/team event.
What makes this event so attractive to Premier dancers is the fact that the dancers get to be creative with their presentations, which is a nice change from the standard Championship or National dances. This duet opportunity allows dancers to team up with another dance school member or a friend from another dance school if
they do not have enough dancers to form a small or large group choreography, thus allowing them to be included in choreography events rather than excluded.
The general feeling by many is the fact that choreography is enjoyed by not only the dancers, but also the audience and by allowing the Premier dancers another element of dance, it will keep the Premier dancers interested in competing and performing in the series much longer and that is fabulous. We are so very pleased that many of our premier dancers registered for choreography are 23 years and older, which is wonderful for Highland Dancing!
The Duet Choreography Special event’s music will showcase a musical trio called “ Les Fireflies”. Les Fireflies” are comprised of 3 very talented, award winning fiddlers, multi-instrumentalists and singer songwriters. Samantha Robichaud, Louise Vautour and Christine Melanson have performed all over the world in their solo careers, and have now come together to give you a true authentic kitchen party, filled with Scottish, Irish and Acadian music!

We had such a great registration for this event which is allowed us the opportunity to offer five age groups for this event and because the dancers are all using the same piece of music, we will be able to run these age groups all together and keep within our time schedule for the day. The winners in all five age groups will be featured in the Opening ceremonies that evening and will perform LIVE to “Les Fireflies”. How thrilling is that for any performer to dance to live music!
The Duet Choreography Premier Special event will begin at 1:45pm on Wednesday, July 3rd, following the Beginner and Novice Trophy Flings and what a terrific way to start off the 2019 series.
If you haven’t got your tickets yet for that first day, which will include the Opening Ceremonies,
don’t forgot to get your tickets in advance. All ticket prices are increased at the door!
What started out as an idea to incorporate more choreography into our series, will now be a reality and we’d like to thank SDC for supporting our vision. We are excited to welcome all our Duet Teams on the 3rd and can’t wait to see all the wonderful versions of creative Highland choreography the music will bring out in your dancing.
